Urgent Call for the Prosecutor-General to investigate the case of a prisoner’s hunger strike
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) contacted the Prosecutor-General, Chancellor Abdel Magid Mahmoud in an urgent call to investigate the incident of a prisoner’s hunger strike in Abu Zabal prison.
In its statement which Ikhwanweb received a copy of, it stressed that the detainee Ramzi Mahmoud Almwafi had begun an open-ended hunger strike since August 20. He objected to the treatment he was receiving from the prison’s administration where he was denied even the most basic necessities needed for survival.
Almwafi aged 58 a doctor was arrested inn 2007 and sentenced to 31 years imprisonment in a military tribunal. He is now serving his sentence in Abu Zabal Prison.
Family members said that the inhumane conditions in which he was detained could attribute to the deteriorating of his health where he was denied clean drinking water, food and medication. The (EOHR) beseeched authorities to release Ramzi on account of his poor health.
