Women Against The Coup Condemns Arrest of 22 Girls from Egypt Upper House Peaceful Protest

The Women Against the Coup movement, member of the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance, condemns the detention Tuesday evening of 22 young women during the demonstration in front of the Shura Council (Upper House) in protest of the demonstration law. Some were dragged on the ground or pulled by their hair. All this affirms that the coup militias have lost their senses, and are repeating the same criminal scenarios and atrocities of Mohamed Mahmoud Street, the Cabinet Building and the Free Women of Alexandria, and other crimes by the coup regime against the free women of Egypt.

The movement stands in solidarity with these women arrested and detained today (Tuesday), added to the list of free Egyptian women in coup prisons. It notes that all this violence and these crimes are taking place while the United Nations and all countries of the world are observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. And the message to the world is clear: The coup is committing violence against Egyptian women who reject it along with its repression and invalid laws.

The movement urges all revolutionary groups still believing in January 25th to join the lines of the Revolution, and to unite against the vicious gang killing women and children, assaulting free women, and pursuing honorable people. The movement emphasizes that these events are a continuation of the painful crimes against the women rejecting the coup and supporting legitimacy. The movement demands a firm stance such as that before January 25th.
