Yemeni Opposition To Name Its Presidential Candidate

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, the head of the Yemeni Coalition Party for Reform, Mr. Mohammed Kahtan, said that the coalition will select a presidential candidate in the next few days to run for the upcoming elections in September 2006.

The Coalition Party Executive Council held a series of meetings to discuss preparations for both presidential and municipal elections in coordination with other parties within the opposition to name a presidential candidate. The party appointed some of its members to ensure all parties adhere to the Principles Declaration Agreement reached between the coalition parties in the opposition and the Ruling Popular Congress Party to guarantee transparency of elections.

It is to be mentioned that president Ali Abdullah Saleh affirmed that he will not run for the coming elections, leaving the ruling Popular Congress Party to choose another candidate instead .
