El-Katatni: MB Endorses Sunday’s strike to Protest Political Corruption

Dr. Mohamed Saad El-Katatni, the head of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Parliamentary bloc, confirmed in a press release that the Muslim Brotherhood"s decision to endorse May 4 strike is based on the belief that all citizens have the right to protest peacefully against the unprecedented corruption and political siege Egypt is witnessing under the current NDP regime.

The Egyptian regime has turned a blind eye to all reform calls by Egyptians from different trends, he said, and added that the regime continues its corrupt policies without having any consideration to the negative and dangerous effects of such policies which added fuel to crises such as the increasing degree of poverty and price hikes.

People’s commitment to stay at home on Sunday, he said, without staging unorganized demonstrations is a civilized way of protest.

“People need to express their rejection of the wrong policies and procedures undertaken by the government both nationally and intentionally,” he said.

“We hope that the Egyptian government would retain its sanity, address people’s demands, and respect Egypt’s constitution.”
